wHAT IS KAVA?

Kava, sometimes called kavain or kavapyrone, is a plant-based product with calming and anxiety-relieving properties. It’s derived from the roots of Piper methysticum (kava pepper) plants that have been used in traditional ceremonies by Polynesians for centuries. The active components found in kava are called kavalactones, which can be extracted from the root and used for medicinal purposes.

Kava has been studied for its potential to help a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, insomnia, menopausal symptoms, muscle tension and pain relief.

Kava is usually consumed through a beverage made from the dried root pieces, although it can also be taken in capsule form or as an extract. The effects typically start to become noticeable within 30 minutes and last for up to four hours.
